From an outsider looking in, dreadlocks seem easy. They look just like twisted, tangled hair. No big deal. Right?
However, nothing could be further from the truth.
Dreadlocks are a lot of work.
Some of the things you have to do with dreadlocks is that you have to keep the scalp clean, you have to wash the dreads and keep them dry to avoid hair mildew and/or rot. In addition, you have to make sure the dreads are formed correctly so they grow in a symmetrical profile. Dreads have to be coated with either oil, wax or a combination.
If you get tired of dreadlocks you have to cut them off. While it's possible in theory to untangle them, the hair becomes way too damaged when you try and undo the dreads.
People have done it. Unfortunately it's just not all that easy or practical to pull off.
